Hallux Limitus/Hallux Rigidus (Big Toe Pain)
Comfort Shoe Specialists of St. Louis has effective modalities for Hallux Limitus and Hallux Rigidus. From orthoses with Morton’s extensions, whether for running, walking, or dress wear to carbon fiber plates to rocker soles, we provide an array of solutions for big toe pain (Hallux Limitus and Hallux Rigidus).

Hallux is the great toe. Hallux Limitus means that the great toe has limited range of motion, most often in dorsiflexion, or bending upward at toe off. Hallux Rigidus means that the great toe does not bend in dorsiflexion (bending upward) or plantar flexion (bending downward). Often these conditions are the result of arthritis caused from trauma, either macro as in a fracture, or micro, as in the wearing of high heels and tight footwear, squeezing the toes and jamming the joints.
Comfort Shoe Specialists of St. Louis has developed modifications for shoes that reduce motion of the joints, allowing for self-expression in footwear that may not work without the “dress to sneaker comfort” modality.
